The Executioner is back, for the 22nd time, in "Hawaiian Hellground," Can it be that the Mafia is joining up with ChiCom creeps to threaten the very existence of the world itself?? Not if Mack Bolan has anything to say about it, and he's letting his huge silver automatic do the talking-- ka-chow! This time he's joined by sexy hell-warrior Smiley and sexy warrior-hellion Toby as they shoot hell out of the hell-spawned Mob demons and sinister Chinese (or Oriental, as he's called here) General Loon. Ka-chow!
The Executioner series is of interest as the progenitor of literally thousands of hard-as-nails paperbacks featuring The Butcher, The Stony Man, The Punisher, The Destroyer, etc., and so everyone should read at least one of these, preferably one of the first ten. "Hawaiian Hellground" is already a parody of a parody of a parody, and will be taken seriously by only the desperately easy-to-please. Even the action seems by-the-numbers, and that's usually Pendleton's specialty, with bullets zinging around like brain-exploding death-hornets from Bolan's massively-endowed weapon. Even at its best, Pendleton's stuff reads like an SJ Perelman parody, but it has life and entertainment value in the first few episodes. By #22, the law of diminished returns has set in fer sure.
So if you find a copy of one of the first ten "Executioners," pick it up and enjoy the cheese-- otherwise, skip it. (This goes for The Destroyer series as well-- the first few are surprisingly good.)
